Savannah is often called the most haunted city in America. As a local guide who has walked these cobblestone streets for years, I’ve seen skeptics turn into believers and heard stories that would make your skin crawl. Here is my honest, experience-based ranking of the most haunted places in Savannah — not based on marketing, but on documented history and what I’ve personally witnessed.
1. The Sorrel-Weed House
Located at 6 W Harris Street, the Sorrel-Weed House is widely considered the most paranormally active location in the city. Visitors report seeing figures in the mirrors and feeling a heavy, draining energy in the basement. The carriage house is particularly active. Whether it’s the documented tragic history of the Sorrel family or the older violence associated with the property, this is the one I recommend above all others for serious paranormal interest.
2. 17Hundred90 Inn
This is one of the few places where I’m almost certain I’ve captured a spirit on camera. The 17Hundred90 Inn is famous for the ghost of Anna — a heartbroken woman who reportedly jumped from a third-story window. However, she’s not alone. The kitchen is also haunted by a considerably grumpier spirit who enjoys throwing pots and pans at staff. Room 204 is the hotspot for Anna’s activity specifically.
3. The Marshall House
Opened in 1851, the Marshall House served as a hospital during yellow fever epidemics and the Civil War. Guests today report hearing children running down the halls and seeing apparitions of soldiers in the corridors. Furthermore, the 1999 renovation uncovered amputated limbs beneath the floorboards — a fact that confirms the documented history of the place and explains a great deal of the activity. It’s a beautiful hotel. Just keep the lights on.
4. The Pirate’s House
Built in 1754, this is one of the oldest buildings in Georgia. It was once a tavern for sailors and pirates. Legend has it that men were “shanghaied” through underground tunnels — and those tunnels are real. Today, staff and guests report shadowy figures and phantom footsteps echoing through the dining rooms, particularly in the oldest sections of the building.
5. Moon River Brewing Company
If you’ve watched any ghost hunting shows, you’ve likely seen Moon River. This former hotel and warehouse is notorious for consistent and documented paranormal activity. From the “Lady in White” on the upper floors to objects moving independently, it’s a location that even seasoned investigators approach with respect. In my experience, the upper floors produce some of the most consistent anomalous readings I’ve logged anywhere in the city.
6. The Kehoe House
Now a luxury bed and breakfast, the Kehoe House was once a funeral home. It’s rumored to be haunted by the spirits of two twin boys who died in the house. Guests often report hearing the sounds of children playing when no children are staying there. The activity pattern here is consistent with what investigators find in properties with histories of child mortality.
7. Colonial Park Cemetery
You can’t talk about haunted Savannah without Colonial Park. With roughly 700 marked graves and an estimated 10,000 people actually buried there — many in unmarked mass graves from yellow fever outbreaks — the energy here is palpable. The perimeter is a hotspot for paranormal activity, with many reporting strange lights and shadowy figures among the ancient tombstones. I’ve logged some of my most consistent and repeatable anomalous readings here across years of investigation.
